Big round of applause

Not only is this genius... I can actually see it happening. Best line, hands down: "Passing game coordinator"? What in the good cow-tipping fuck is that?"

P.S. Yes, I realize that it was written by a Georgia fan. But it's that good anyway.

Works for me

Number-crunching forecast for Sept. 19, 2009. A day most highly anticipated in these here parts.

Why I love the SEC, part XXI

Because dadgummit, it's the conference that manages to keep even the off-season entertaining.

What's your vote?

Here's a rather inventive poll from stylepointsblog:

I chose carrier pigeon; I'm old-fashioned that way. Given my target audience, however, I'm guessing that most will choose No. 3. If only to indulge in wishful thinking.

Seriously, is he made of fiberglass or something?

I think Harvin should check in with the CDC. I'm guessing he's harboring every germ imaginable.

No, really?

Wow. At this point, it's almost beyond comical and moving into retarded.

Tennessee to self-report another secondary violation

I am disappointed by the claim that it was a new staffer who posted the Tweet in contention. If only because I really could sense Kiffin's earnest stupidity in prior Tweets. I'm just going to pretend that it was him and that this is some quickly concocted excuse. Which...

Still up for grabs: Who is crazier, Kiffin or Davis?

Courtesy of http://withleather.uproxx.com/, this comes from former Hokie and former Raiders player DeAngelo Hall:

"Probably the funniest thing, I was pretty close to Lane Kiffin…and after they fired Lane and were about to announce who the next coach was - I don’t know if you guys saw this in the media world, but I was actually sitting there live, me and a couple other players there in the back. And [Davis] went through this whole spiel of what happened…and said our next coach is Tom Cable, he’s going to be our interim coach. When everybody paused for Tom to come in, like a breakoff. [Davis] goes to the media guide and not even whispering says ‘hey, anyone got any information on this Tom Cable guy, I don’t know where he comes from.’ That’s just vintage Al Davis. Making a move, not really knowing why, no real justification for doing it. But just saying, ‘hey, I want this guy, let’s get him, I’ll figure everything else out later.’ And that’s just how Al Davis is."

Lane Kiffin is karma's bitch

While I have no doubt that he'll be able to turn this around by making nice--assuming, of course, that he doesn't screw that up, too--it's still funny to watch it all pan out in the meantime. I'm also starting to think he never attended kindergarten: we don't say things that might hurt other people's feelings, Lane.

Winning friends, influencing high school principals

Lane Kiffin truly is the gift that keeps on giving, not just for us but also for UT recruiting efforts.

Exhibit A: http://www.soflafootball.com/feature/vols-back-in-pahokee-sort-of

To wit: "The whole nation knows about Tennessee Head Coach Lane Kiffin’s regrettable remarks towards the Pahokee community shortly after landing Richardson. It appears those comments still ring in the ears of some at Pahokee High, as coaches from Tennessee attempted to visit Pahokee earlier in the week.

“'The principal kicked them out because he’s still mad at the coach or something like that,' said Ford.'

Seems like people down in South Florida have long memories. Good thing that's not fertile ground for recruits or anything.

Because I want to end the day on a bit less of a downer

The one, the only, the befuddled: I present to you Coach Kiffin.

Not for the faint of heart

Here's the official judicial opinion that describes what Hood did. I could barely read it, and I'm only posting it as my final input on this matter (for now). I'm sure you can guess my opinion. And I'm equally sure there's a "Tennessee cousins" joke in here, I just don't feel like making it after reading this. WTF is wrong with kids these days?

http://www.tsc.state.tn.us/OPINIONS/TCA/PDF/064/HooddaOPN.pdf

But hey: "He’s apparently a friendly young man who gets along well with his peers." Just not his relatives, I guess.

Sorry, gotta disagree.

Entirely. And I'm sorry for deviating from the usual humorous (or attempt at such) nature of this site, but I consider rape to be a crime that gets far too light a slap on the wrist. Juvvie record or no, that doesn't mean that it didn't happen. Knowingly recruiting someone with this history, no matter how glowing the letters of recommendation, doesn't speak much for Kiffin's character, in my opinion. Hell, even Fulmer turned the guy away when he found out his record. Should be interesting to see how this all pans out. I'm starting to be reminded a lot of Nebraska under Tom Osbourne.

Just found Deadspin's take, which I think asks some good questions about this. Also, the details are a little different--the sportingnews.com report didn't (at least in my read-through) imply that the kid actually also raped; it just says "helped rape" (which, WTF, anyway?). Obviously a lot more to be learned about this. But in the meantime:
